What is adoption?

Adoption is a legal transfer of guardianship that permanently places your child with another family. There are several types of adoption and you are able to customize your adoption experience to fit your unique situation.

Open adoption

Open adoption is an adoption arrangement that still allows you to have varying amounts of contact with your child throughout their lives. Depending on your arrangement, you may be allowed visitation rights, updates, contact information, photos, or other forms of contact as your child grows up with their adoptive family.

Closed adoption

A closed adoption is an adoption arrangement that does not allow for any contact between you, the child and the adoptive family. Many women choose this if they feel as if it will help them move on with their lives after their unplanned pregnancy. Some closed adoption arrangements allow the child to choose if they want to initiate contact after they turn 18 years old.
